Not off to a good start.
As you’re surely aware, the ethereal legacy that is Woodstock is set for revival in celebration of the 50th anniversary since its inception. When one thinks of Woodstock, visions of long-haired, flower-adorned hippies puffing on joints and dancing to Jimi Hendrix spring to mind — so naturally people were excited about the prospect of its return.
After much anticipation, the lineup has finally arrived and people are feeling a little jilted. Since revealing the acts set to hit the three-day festival, thousands of angry would-be punters have taken to social media to express their disapproval.
The comments section is basically a sea of constructive criticism. Notable remarks include “In all honesty, if I won an all expenses paid trip to all three days, I would pass. The lineup is that bad”, “*In hippy voice* ‘That’s not what Woodstock was about man'” and “The Woodstock 50 lineup looks like it was curated by someone who’s only exposure to music has been through the Grammy’s ‘Best Rock Performance’ category between 2010-2013”.
To be fair, the lineup has some pretty big names, but considering the legacy and spirit of Woodstock, it does feel like a bit of a miss. That being said, there’s definitely something for everyone, with acts ranging from Miley Cyrus, Chance The Rapper and Jay Z to Robert Plant and The Sensational Shapeshifters, The Zombies and Pussy Riot. Maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t book those international flights.
