Get in early.
Even though Bluesfest is more than half a year away, the announcements have started to roll in. This time, the team has revealed the first two festival sideshows, in addition to a very special surprise act.
Just ahead of their shows at Bluesfest 2020, veteran guitarist and singer George Benson and award-winning singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will be heading to stages in Melbourne and Sydney. Benson released his 36th album, Walking to New Orleans, back in April to critical acclaim. Carlile’s latest release, By The Way, I Forgive You, dropped in February last year and earned her the Grammy Award for Best Americana Album.
In addition to Benson and Carlile, soul legend Mavis Staples has also revealed she’ll be making an appearance Down Under. Staples played at Bluesfest last year and will be heading back to Aussie shores a month earlier in March for a one-off show in Brisbane.
Last month, Bluesfest revealed the first batch of acts headed to Byron Bay in April, including punk queen Patti Smith and US rockers Dave Matthews Band.
