Video premiere: Forever Son’s ‘How To Smile’ is a feelgood life lesson

Forever Son

The colourful clip shares a moral everyone can relate to: work hard and reap the rewards.

Forever Son has dropped the music video for his latest single ‘How To Smile’. The track has been released ahead of Forever Son’s forthcoming album, set for release next year.

‘How To Smile’ began as an acoustic track before taking a turn into the rock’n’roll realm. Finally, the track left frontman Jack Robbins’ home recording studio as a DIY folk-rock piece.

The sunny music clip depicts Robbins and his wholesome, yet at times dysfunctional, journey to save up money for a bike by working a number of odd jobs. The music video’s director, Jackson Hayat, said the process for making the clip was very free-flowing.

“We spit-balled a bunch of different jobs Jack could work and really left the arcs of each scene open to improv and experimentation on the day,” he said.

“I love shooting this way, almost like how the Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’ was shot by Spike Jonze literally driving around LA and shooting on the fly. I feel it gave the end product such a light-hearted and natural mood.”
