The mysterious Tasmanian festival is going ahead in 2021.
Tasmania’s A Festival Called PANAMA has quietly just dropped their 2021 lineup, featuring a number of big local acts. Tropical Fuck Storm, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks and Electric Fields are the most notable names on the bill but it certainly doesn’t stop there.
A Festival Called PANAMA have made a habit of crafting eclectic and well-rounded lineups for years, and 2021 is no different. Alongside the aforementioned names come the likes of Maddy Jane, Tasmania’s own A. Swayze & The Ghosts, Ajak Kwai and Meres, among others.
Taking place at the secluded 50-acre Lone Star Valley property in lutruwita/Tasmania, the 2021 incarnation of A Festival Called PANAMA will take place over two weekends, with the first taking place on March 6 and 7, before the second weekend goes down across March 12 and 13.
To go alongside the music bill, The Panama Book Club will see author Robbie Arnott host a discussion about his 2020 novel, The Rain Heron – a mystical read inspired by Tasmania’s inimitable, breathtaking landscape. That’s alongside late night DJs, pop-up bars and food stalls flaunting local produce.
“Booking a festival during a global pandemic is interesting,” the festival said in a statement on their website. “At a certain point, we had to make a call as to what approach to take. We went with a plan to have almost all Tassie acts with just four interstate bands that we know and love. This was at a time when things were looking pretty good on the COVID front.
“Since then there have been some more cases of COVID in Victoria and NSW. So, it’s in the hands of the fates now,” the festival continues.
“It’s possible the interstate bands won’t be able to come if borders shut or outbreaks evolve. In that instance, our plan will be to proceed with an all Tassie lineup. So keep that in mind. Our approach is to try and make the best decisions we can with the info at hand and be ready to adapt as we need to.”
