Ticketmaster to introduce digital anti-scalping technology

The tech is set to be introduced by early next year.

Ticketmaster has announced it will be introducing smart ticket technology that makes it far more difficult for scammers to sell fake tickets to unsuspecting punters.

Ticketmaster’s Safetix technology changes the barcode of the ticket every 15 seconds, which means scalpers are unable to resell the same seat over and over.

The tickets will first be introduced to AFL matches at Marvel Stadium and Perth Stadium. Ticketholders will be able to enter the stadium grounds by using their smartphone. The technology is currently being used in the majority of NFL stadiums in operation in the US.

“We’ve designed this thing out of the gate to scale to the largest venues in the ecosystem, and the AFL certainly falls into that category,” Ticketmaster chief product officer Justin Burleigh told the Herald Sun.

The news follows Google’s recent decision to prevent Viagogo from using its pay-for-ranking services.
