The Bamboos are teaming up with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for two special shows

Celebrating 20 years of Melbourne’s pre-eminent soul band.

It goes without saying that The Bamboos are Melbourne luminaries. Across 20 years, the band has established a strong following with their ebullient brand of soul – their incredible live show catapulting them into the hearts and minds of music lovers all across the country.

To celebrate such a successful tenure, The Bamboos are teaming up with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for two special performances. Going down on back-to-back nights – on Friday March 12 and Saturday March 13 – the shows will see The Bamboos’ classic hits brought to life in extravagant orchestral fashion.

Since The Bamboos commenced in 2001, the nine-piece soul band – led by the incredible Kylie Auldist – have captured the imagination of music lovers the world over. They sold out London’s Barbican and The Jazz Cafe right off the bat, and then went from strength to strength, releasing nine studio albums, including the ever-popular Medicine Man and the Tim Rogers-collaborative Rules of Attraction in 2015.

In mid February, The Bamboos returned with a new single, ‘Ride On Time’another slice of the infectious funk and soul punters have come to know and love from the seminal outfit. It’s the next track to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming album, Hard Up, set to be released on Friday May 7.

This duo of shows, going down at Hamer Hall, will be be special for two reasons – acting as both a commemoration of a lasting legacy, while also being a jumpstart for The Bamboos’ next chapter.

“Having the opportunity to perform our music on stage with the full Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall is really the stuff that dreams are made of,” The Bamboos bandleader Lance Ferguson said in a statement.

“After such a challenging 2020 in Melbourne I feel like these hometown shows are going to be extra cathartic for all involved and so rest assured we’ll be pulling out ALL the stops.”
