The Aussie metal bands making a European invasion

Words by Anna Rose

The likes of Darkcell, Pagan and RedHook are leading the way.

Us Aussies have declared war – war on metal! In recent months we’ve invaded Europe to show them how heavy our metal truly is, and boy, are our offerings doing the country proud. Here lies three of our hottest heavy acts who’ve undertaken a recent invasion of the northern hemisphere. Good on ya, mates!

Darkcell

Off the back of the release of their self-titled sixth studio album, alt-rock metallers Darkcell have made a gloriously gory mess of the UK and Europe as they traipsed some of its most famous venues. From London’s Underworld and Edinburgh’s Bannermans to Liverpool’s Hangtight Festival and right the way into Germany, Darkcell have taken their tales of horror, death and evil to the masses with impressive success. They’ll be home soon, to revitalise themselves in their coffins no doubt, before heading out on a national tour in October supporting Combichrist.

Pagan

They left the stage of this year’s Unify Gathering a bloody mess and have become Europe’s death discos darlings. Setting out on The Evil Eye Tour, Melbourne’s own Pagan have hit up Leeds’ Slam Dunk Festival, graced the cover of Discovered Magazine, and even landed a coveted spot in the K! Pit, a visual subset of the world famous Kerrang! Magazine performing a genre-shattering, carnage filled set. Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and England – Pagan are doing a lap of the world to create a global cult following to the church of blackened rock‘n’roll, touching home base to tour with The Amity Affliction in September.

RedHook

Is there anything RedHook haven’t done this year? In a very short space of time, the Sydney nu-metal outfit have exploded onto the Aussie metal scene and have supported Skillet, Bad Wolves, Sevendust, and performed at Download Australia. They were featured in Rock Sound magazine and will make their UK debut at Download Festival this month before continuing their Euro domination supporting Bad Wolves. Once they get home, it’s back to business immediately as they support Three Days Grace.
