To say Rainbow Serpent has had a tough time of it lately would be an understatement. After bushfires prevented their 2020 instalment from going ahead at the normal date, it took another wicked phenomenon to disallow it’s ensuing Easter event to go ahead. Suddenly, Rainbow were refunding two festivals in the space of three months.
As we stand here now, in mid-to-late January, normally punters would be readying their getups, packing their cars, and gearing themselves up for another pilgrimage to Rainbow’s iconic festival site. For the second year running, however, that won’t be the case.

Going down from Saturday January 23 to Sunday January 24, this year will see Rainbow take place as a ‘pay as you feel’ digital event. While the DJs will be descending on Lexton to present a livestream that’s uniquely Rainbow in its heart and soul, punters won’t be able to physically attend. Rather they are invited to join the party online.
Kicking off with the special Opening Ceremony, Tanderrum, from 7pm on the first night, the Dja Dja Wurrung and Wadawurrung Peoples, who have been coming together on this shared Country for thousands of years, will present a special blessing from Rainbow Serpent’s traditional custodians.
What will follow is 24 hours of Rainbow Serpent’s favourite local and international techno, trance, dub and glitch artists accompanied by breathtaking visual displays courtesy of video artists, live painters and performers.
Some of the artists performing include Kodiak Kid, Spoonbill, Boogs, Uone, James Monro, D-Nox, Bec Grenfell, John Monkman, Monkey Marc and so many more.

Rainbow Serpent will be offering the festival stream via their Facebook page for free, however, to help them cover remaining costs and to give back to the artists and communities that make Rainbow what it is today, they have launched a Pozible page, where festival-goers will have the option to donate to the cause.
This weekend’s festival stream wouldn’t be going ahead without the support of Rainbow’s partners and sponsors. The festival also gives their gratitude to Unite, Creative Victoria, Regional Arts Victoria and the Rainbow Arts and Culture Foundation.
