Joining the growing list of bands and artists taking to technology to share their music with the masses in these dark times, Patti Smith joined her daughter Jesse live on Instagram this morning for a special performance.
With Bluesfest and all official sideshows cancelled, countries in lockdown and international travel advised against, Patti Smith’s planned Australian tour will no longer go ahead next month.
“Our tour in Australia was cancelled, so I want to say hello to all of our friends in Australia and New Zealand,” said Smith on Instagram. “Sorry we won’t be with you, but our thoughts are much with you and they’re with everyone.”
Accompanied by her daughter on piano, Smith performed a song and poem for her virtual audience in an effort to lift spirits and bring music to people when they need it most.
“This is a time when social media can be used in a really positive way,” said Jesse, indicating that the performance would be the first of many live streams to come.
