The tour will see the band perform a number of intimate shows around the country in Melbourne, Ballarat, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney, accompanying their recent appearance at Adelaide’s Space Jams Festival. As part of the tour, Destrends will take to Melbourne’s own Old Bar on Saturday May 8.
While in lockdown, the band released their second EP, Wasteland. To celebrate the EP’s release and the band’s return to live performance, Destrends have collaborated with local artist High Noon Moon to create a special edition 7” vinyl for the record, with only 150 copies available.
Wasteland is billed as a “continuation of Destrends’ propensity to capture zeitgeist in a powerful yet accessible sonic tapestry”. Known for their bass-driven sound, influenced by early ’80s new wave, Destrends put themselves on the map with their first EP, 2017’s Lousy Lover, scoring themselves supporting slots on tours with Aussie legends King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Spiderbait and Hoodoo Gurus.
The band returned in 2019 with their single ‘Medication’, a song centred around a post-apocalyptic dystopia that speaks to political leaders’ apathy towards issues like climate change and the resulting powerlessness of young individuals as they accept the inevitable.
