Lime Cordiale’s debut full-length, Permanent Vacation, is a colourful and catchy bob. This is a splendidly genre-fluid record that does well to not appear jarring. Each track melts beautifully into the next, with hints of soul, funk, pop and rock throughout.
Permanent Vacation offers moments of sass and spunk yet also does a splendid job at paring things back and telling stories of love, yearning and growing up. ‘Can I Be Your Lover’ is a tune that feels like it embodies all of the wonderful elements of Lime Cordiale at once. Show this to someone wanting to get a full-bodied idea of what this band can do. It mixes catchy rock guitars, a soulful voice and dance-vibe keys with ease, making for a truly fun track.
‘What Is Growing Up’ feels like an anthem for 20-somethings going through the motions of burgeoning adulthood. It grooves along to some bloody relatable lyrics such as, “What is growing up, is it fighting for a car spot?” that will make you think, ‘Shit, that’s genius.’
Overall, there’s a signature Lime Cordiale groove to be felt in this record. Permanent Vacation is engaging and eclectic and is certainly a record not to be missed.
