Got a sweet idea for a festival or event? City of Melbourne wants to help bring it to life

Words by Tom Parker

Applications for the 2022 intake of City of Melbourne’s Event Partnership Program are now open.

The City of Melbourne has just opened applications for the 2022 instalment of its Event Partnership Program (EPP) – an initiative designed to support free and accessible events that create “memorable, engaging and innovative experiences” for both Melburnians and visitors alike.

The program is conducted on an annual basis, providing one sponsorship round per year for prospective events and festivals. In 2021, the Event Partnership Program has proved pivotal in reigniting a Melbourne knocked down by the pandemic, offering exciting event and festival concepts the opportunity to observe and engage a post-COVID world.

Catch up on the latest festival news, reviews and interviews here.

The events and festivals successful as part of the Event Partnership Program will be offered financial support and in-kind sponsorship relevant to the quality of the application submitted and the scale of the event. Those successful from their application will be able to demonstrate how they can generate benefits for a variety of communities and businesses, and how such benefits align with City of Melbourne’s vision and goals.

The successful events and festivals must also be able to demonstrate how their innovation can benefit the City of Melbourne through various areas such as brand exposure, marketing and digital advertising, speaking opportunities for Councillors, hospitality, activations, among others.

Melbourne’s reputation as a globally-recognised, locally-adored, events city is no secret, with millions of people enjoying a comprehensive and equally-enviable year-round program of events and festivals. The EPP looks to uphold such recognition, sustaining the city’s cultural imprint and diversity in the process.

To help get Event Organisers up to speed, the City of Melbourne will be conducting an information webinar session on Wednesday May 12 from 1pm to 2pm. The webinar will look to cover all information relating to the program criteria and application process and all applicants, whether new or returning, are encouraged to attend. Register your attendance for the webinar by emailing [email protected].

Applications for EPP 2022 are now open and will close at 5pm, Monday May 31, for events set to take place between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022.
