The votes are in, and dark pop royalty Billie Eilish has nabbed Beat’s People’s Choice Award for Song of the Year.
Eilish ushered in a new wave of pop with her debut studio album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. Her topical use of ASMR, peculiar lyrics and unusual aesthetic made her both a Gen Z visionary and a launching pad for plenty of Facebook memes. ‘bad guy’ reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, contributing to Eilish becoming the third female solo artist with multiple songs topping the Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart.
Since the album’s drop, Eilish has gone on to release a new track, ‘everything i wanted’, in addition to touring the world non-stop.
