Beats by Beat: Melbourne label Houses in Motion drops a R&B-tinged dance hit

Houses in Motion
Words by Sam Howard

Perfect for any hectic late-night dancefloor.

Welcome to Beats by Beat, our new mix series for electronic music lovers. Head here if you missed the previous Beats by Beat mix, produced by Melbourne DJ Kayroy.

Oli and Xander’s obsession with music dates back to preadolescent times as kids when they both lived in Canberra. As soon as they finished school, they moved to Melbourne where they held residencies and collaborated with other crews, and where Houses in Motion was born.

The label originally started as a platform to share the fine digital tunes created by their own friends, but it was hearing Roy Blues’ unreleased ‘Pyramid’ track on a dance floor for the first time which blew their mind and from then, they began releasing tracks on vinyl.

Featuring that track, they decided to create a compilation called HIMCPM001 released through Lobster Theremin’s distribution and they’ve been growing and showcasing fantastic emerging local and international talent ever since.

Ryan Berkeley and Nice Girl have been some of their most notable releases, with a new 12-inch debut from Ten Brains coming out at the end of the year. But for now, as you wait, listen to one half of the duo behind the label – Xander – as he takes you through a hedonistic journey of electro, breaks, bass and with some R&B classics to delight your ears.
