The Operatives are celebrating their 16th birthday in a big way.

Talent agency and event promoters The Operatives are celebrating their sweet 16th with a bulging lineup of local hip hop, soul, electronic and R&B acts. The list of artists – which includes limber MC Jordan Dennis, latin soul and R&B singer Khiarra and future-soul artist Emma Volard – should be enough to convince you of the event’s merits, but a little background on The Operatives wouldn’t go astray.

The Operatives are a collective of DJs, producers, singer-songwriters, broadcasters, studio engineers, photographers, videographers, writers and artists, which has been focused on fostering the local music community since the mid-‘00s. The group are perhaps best known for their Espionage gigs; clandestine events that bring together hot musical talent with mind-bending visuals in unique venues.

Back to the MMW event: along with Dennis, Khiarra and Volard, the birthday party lineup features flowering hip hop talent Denzel M (of The Voice fame), dance floor DJ Lady Banton and soulful MC Yung Shogun.

It’s taking place from mid-afternoon until midnight at North Melbourne party site The Third Day.

The Operatives take over North Melbourne venue The Third Day as part of Melbourne Music Week on Saturday December 12. Grab tix here.
