Residents are advised to boil tap water before consumption until further notice.
Yarra Valley Water has issued a contamination notice for 88 Melbourne suburbs following damage from last night’s storms which caused undisinfected water from Silvan Dam to enter the water supply system.
Residents have been advised to boil tap water before drinking, use for food preparation, brushing teeth, or anything else that would lead to ingesting the contaminated water, until further notice. Consuming the water without boiling it first may lead to gastro-like symptoms.
The affected suburbs are:
Boronia, Box Hill North
Mont Albert North
The issue is expected to be resolved later today.
We’ve become aware of a potential water quality issue affecting 88 suburbs due to electrical damage caused by storms overnight. Some water may have entered our drinking water supply network that had not been treated to the usual standard. 1/2
