But festival organisers are saying it’s far from over.

It’s looking like Woodstock 50 might be dead in the water, with a main financial backer reportedly pulling the plug on the whole event.

As reported by Rolling Stone, one of Woodstock’s major investors, Dentsu, said the ambitious 50th anniversary spectacular would not be going ahead.

“Despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees,” the statement by Dentsu read.

Billboard reports “concerns about the capacity of the festival, site readiness and permitting issues led to the cancellation of the commemorative event”. Tickets for the event never went on sale, with an Earth Day sale scheduled for Monday April 22 postponed due to reported permit issues.

However, in a statement to the Poughkeepsie Journal, festival organisers have said the event is all but cancelled.

“Woodstock 50 vehemently denies the festival’s cancellation and legal remedy will (be) sought.”

The lineup for Woodstock’s 50th anniversary included The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Courtney Barnett, Santana, Chance the Rapper, Jay-Z and more high-profile acts. The event was scheduled to take place between Friday August 16 and Sunday August 18 in New York.
