Wine and dine yourself post-iso at Yering Station’s restaurant

Words by Greta Brereton

Escape to the country.

After a few months in lockdown, most of us are pretty sick of staring at the same four walls. Thankfully we’ve been offered some respite now that restrictions are being scaled back, and one ritual many of us are keen to get back to is dining out.

It’s important to get down to your local and show them some much needed post-iso love, but it’s also a good opportunity to get out of the city and treat yourself to something special.

The Yarra Valley is a breath of fresh air, a rolling green landscape only an hour drive from Melbourne. It’s here you’ll Victorian wine institution Yering Station, whose signature restaurant is just as celebrated as its vino.

With the all-clear to reopen, they’ll be hosting one-and-a-half-hour lunch sittings from Wednesday to Sunday at 11:30am. You’ll be able to order two or three courses from their a la carte menu on weekdays, or nab a weekend booking for their ‘Trust the Chef’ offering, curated by head chef Ben Smith.

And then, of course, there’s the wine. As well as the usual Yering Station offerings – like their prized 2018 Pinot Noir – diners can also peruse an exclusive list of older vintages chosen by chief winemaker Willy Lunn, which have been aged in their underground cellar.
