White Night, but not as you know it.

The newly reimagined White Night program has been revealed, spanning over three days instead of the usual 12-hour-long stint.

White Night will mainly be located in Birrarung Marr, Treasury Gardens and Carlton Gardens for its 2019 program, with venues such as the State Library of Victoria and Arts Centre Melbourne offering complementary sights to visit. Each garden will be transformed into a ‘realm’ to roam around in.

Birrarung Marr (the physical realm) will be home to The Globe, a 40-minute show featuring circus, acrobatics, music, dance and projections. Treasury Gardens (the sensory realm) will be filled with more than 1,000 programmable lights as part of The Giant Cocoon. Punters will be able to directly interact with the lights, which are held together and suspended with ropes. Over in Carlton Gardens (the spiritual realm), a five-metre high puppet will roam the grounds and stories will be projected onto the walls of the Royal Exhibition Building.

In addition to the Supersense program announced last month, Arts Centre Melbourne has just revealed SUPERDRONE to run alongside White Night. Held underground at the State Theatre, the free event will play host to a number of acts that will perform a concert full of vibrations and drone music.

This is the last year of White Night before it’s set to merge with the Melbourne International Arts Festival and become a new spectacular event.

White Night Reimagined will be taking place in Melbourne from Thursday August 22 until Saturday August 24. For more info, head to the event website.
