What’s on for the Reverence Hotel’s final week

Seeing off the end of an institution in style.

Footscray darling the Reverence Hotel revealed in late November it would be closing its doors for good in March after six years of drinks, gigs and taco Tuesdays. Citing ongoing issues with securing a long-term lease, the Rev’s owners said it’s too difficult to operate with such uncertainty and they’re proud of what they’ve accomplished in six years.

“We’ve been lucky enough to see some of the finest bands come through as well as work with some of the most fun and dedicated staff,” the venue’s owners said in a Facebook post.

“What has emerged has far surpassed our expectations, but as you know we will be wrapping things up here with [the] last gig planned for [Saturday March 2].”

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what we can expect from the Rev’s final week in action.

Wednesday February 27 will see rock outfit Foxing take to the stage for the first time, supported by Nothing Really. Speaking to Beat last week, Foxing guitarist Eric Hudson said they weren’t aware the Rev was closing but were ready to make it a night to remember.

“I’m excited, this will be the maiden voyage for all of us to Australia, and that’s really cool to be part of the venue’s history in that way. Hopefully we can see it [the Rev] off well,” he said.

The next day, Pridelands, The Gloom in the Corner, Caution:Thieves and SETMEONFIRE will see off the hotel with the farewell it deserves. Post Truth, Fourteen Nights at Sea and Encircling Sea will then rock out on Friday March 1.

That’s not all though. The Reverence also has two secret shows happening on Tuesday February 26 and Saturday March 2, the final day. The lineup for both of these shows will be announced on the day, so keep your eyes peeled.
