Warrnambool’s The Loft set to close its doors in June

The owners blame increased competition and a drop in live music culture.

One of Warrnambool’s few remaining music venues, The Loft, will be closing its doors in June after a drop in business.

In a statement, venue owners Jed and Lyn Mast said declining crowd numbers, increasing competition among venues, deteriorating live music culture and the removal of the Warrnambool Standard’s weekly music page have led to its demise. The Loft started trading 20 years ago as The Liquid Lounge. Since its establishment, the venue has hosted a number of iconic Aussie musicians including You Am I’s Tim Rogers, Frenzal Rhomb, Josh Pyke and Kate Miller-Heidke.

“We have, over the last three years, had some amazing support from some amazing local people and musicians,” Lyn Mast said.

“We can’t thank those people enough. And this isn’t the end of the live music scene in Warrnambool. I’m sure that something else will come along.”

The Loft’s annual festival in June, Arockalypse, will be the final event held at the venue.
