Video premiere: Plum Green delivers a stunning piece of noir-folk with ‘Funeral Song’

Exploring loss and letting go, the film clip is a touching tribute to a fallen friend.

Melbourne-based, Brixton-born and New Zealand-bred singer-songwriter Plum Green has delivered an enchanting addition to her catalogue with ‘Funeral Song’.

The single comes hand-in-hand with a film clip, matching Plum Green’s signature noir-folk sound with moody visuals, each exploring death and the stages of grief and acceptance it brings.

A raw, minimalistic affair, ‘Funeral Song’ teams a tenderly-strummed melody with haunting, dream-goth vocals, mirroring the sombre energy that comes with losing a loved one. Despite the heavy subject matter, the track offers a little light amongst the darkness.

Coming in the wake of a friend’s death, the video clip is “a ‘letting go’ ritual”, melding intimate, candlelit scenes with stunning shots of the sinking sun.

Shot by David Chan and directed by Peter Vulino, the clip is cinematic and beautifully captures the heart of ‘Funeral Song’.
