Video premiere: Malakai’s ‘Drive-Thru’ details the ambitious drive for personal success

Malakai

The concrete jungle can be a cruel beast.

Rising hip hop star Malakai has unveiled the music clip for his second single, ‘Drive-Thru’, from his upcoming debut EP, Journals of an Immigrant & Minority.

The track focuses on pursuing individual success in the city, looking for deep and meaningful connections in life and how the two can conflict with each other. Produced by South Carolina’s RellyMade and engineered by Benjamin Thomas and Dan Konopka, the track blends a mix of old-school R&B with contemporary slap bass and trap-soul.

The clip features Malakai and his partner (played by Iannah Powell) roaming through high-energy house parties, picturesque beaches, cities and nighttime neighbourhoods without a care in the world.
