It’s the third single off the beloved Melbourne muso’s forthcoming LP.

The music industry is in a whirlwind as the world gives us its harshest Chinese burn. Through adversity comes strength, however, and if there was ever a resolute community it would be Melbourne’s beaming artistic troupe.

Through all the muck, beloved local muso Jarrow, aka Dan Oke, has just dropped the third single from his forthcoming self-titled LP, ‘Keep A Tab (On All My Friends)’. It’s a contemplative indie-pop banger that’s more relevant than ever.

As Oke tells us, the track was actually written a few years back.

“When I write music for Jarrow, I often use the approach of penning lyrics as an outlet for whatever emotions I’m feeling at the time,” Oke says. “This song is a couple of years old and was written during a crazy transitional period – moving house, joining new bands, trying to find an actual job and detaching myself from the music industry – all whilst trying to maintain my friendships at the exact same time. Juggling that work/life balance hasn’t ever been easy for me and it was inevitable that my pent-up feelings would manifest into a three-minute indie pop banger.”

A banger it is. While the message is honest and matter-of-fact, the sound is bright and positive. It’s a smattering of lush organs, a meandering bassline and delicate acoustic drums as Oke sings candidly over the top.

The video that accompanies the track is even more endearing. Self-isolation is keeping everyone apart but Oke takes a Zoom conference call to the next level by welcoming a whole host of current/past Jarrow members and many of his Melbourne music friends to contribute sections to the track. The result is a hectic coming-together of creatives and shows the true power of friendship and community.

Nice work, Dan.
