Video Premiere: Grace Turbo’s ‘Riverside’ is a haunting evocation of vulnerability and uncertainty

The video precedes the release of her debut album Enjoy the Ache.

Melbourne piano-folk singer Grace Turbo has released the accompanying music video for her intricate new track, ‘Riverside’.

Sharp but mellow, sour yet sweet; the track perfectly captures the unique character of Grace Turbo’s vocals. The song is dominated by an eerie and sombre-sounding piano melody. However, strings kick in after a while, adding waves of texture to the sound and inspiring feelings of contemplation and reflection.

Turbo’s video portrays the stories of three different characters, each carrying their own personal troubles as they go about their day-to-day lives. The narratives of each character are subtly established, and the video’s use of scenes that are typical to Melbourne encourages us to relate to the individuals on a deeper level.

The clip delicately touches on issues of personal vulnerability, alcoholism, isolation, harassment and intimacy. When paired with her chilling vocals, the video is a haunting evocation of vulnerability and uncertainty.

‘Riverside’ will appear on Turbo’s upcoming album Enjoy the Ache. Check out the film clip below.
