Video Premiere: Al Carr’s ‘Good Endings’ has us nostalgic for amicable breakups

Words by Jonti Ridley

The new video comes ahead of Carr’s brand new album.

Melbourne singer-songwriter Al Carr has unveiled the music video for his foot-stomping track, ‘Good Endings’. The song is the first release off Carr’s upcoming album, and has the familiar twang we’ve come to love from him.

The single reminds us that sometimes parting ways is “all we’ve got”, and not every ending is a bad one when staying together could be worse. Fortunately, Carr’s smooth vocals and alt-country melodies on the track do a beautiful job of communicating the seemingly brutal truth in a warm manner.

The new album, set for release later this year, was recorded at Temper Trap studio and features Carr’s long-time band. Special guest Shane Reilly also makes an appearance on the pedal steel.

To celebrate the release of the single, and give a teaser for the upcoming album, Carr will be getting the band together for a one-off show at the Evelyn Hotel. Punters can look forward to classics from Carr’s discography as well as never before heard tracks.

Heartbreakers and all-round alt-country star Teresa Duffy-Richards and her band, The Fifty Foot Women, will be supporting the show to add a folk twist to the mix. St Augustine will open proceedings with a solo set, a rare northside appearance for the artist.

Al Carr’s album launch will take place at The Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy on Thursday September 19. Tickets are $12 on the door. For more info, head to the Facebook event.
