The Melbourne native comes through with a stripped back live performance.
Progressive pop singer-songwriter Ainslie Wills has unveiled the music video for ‘All You Have Is All You Need’, the bluesy title track off her latest album.
‘All You Have Is All You Need’ began as a fast-paced chord progression before Wills decided to slow it down and spin it into a jazz-infused track. It was also far more drum-heavy, but Wills ended up changing the instrumentation after taking inspiration from another musical icon.
“I laid a vocal down over the top and then Lawrence [Folvig, Wills’ longtime collaborator] got the vibe that I was aiming for something that was a little more downtempo and James Blake-like, we had just seen his show live and I was in love with his song ‘My Willing Heart’,” Wills said.
The accompanying black and white video captures the mood of the song quite effectively. Filmed in Melbourne by Spilting Productions, the music video is simple, to the point and flaunts Wills’ talent as a live performer.
Wills’ LP was released on Friday August 9 and her east coast tour is set to kick off today in Brisbane.
