They’ll be playing a bunch of recent releases and classic films.
Northside independent cinema Thornbury Picture House will be back in action next week, with doors set to reopen to the public on Thursday June 25.
They’ve got a killer program lined up, too, featuring new releases by Australian directors including The Assistant (Kitty Green) and Hearts & Bones (Ben Lawerence) as well as continuing the runs of recent, popular films whose screenings were cut short as a result of the shutdowns, such as Honeyland, In My Blood It Runs and The Current War.
With the film industry at a standstill as a result of COVID-19, Thornbury Picture House is taking advantage of the limited new content available to get creative with their programming. They’ve teamed up with Four Pillars Gin Distillery to present ‘Bloody Winter’, a mini-festival dedicated to bloody and scary films which will include screenings of the director’s cut of Midsommar, the 40th year release of The Shining, In Fabric and more.
There will also be a cinematic tribute to Phoenix brothers River and Joaquin with the mini-festival Phoenix Rising, a sci-fi special, and so much more.
