Returning to Ocean Grove for its second year, MusicAles is an event hosted by the family-run independent craft brewery with the intention of filling its lineup with homegrown musicians.

The free event will take over BrewiColo’s space on Marine Parade for an entire day, boasting not only some amazing up-and coming-artists but also fresh beer on tap from the brewery itself and a slew of delicious food trucks.

The brewery is currently in the process of putting together their lineup, so if you’re an emerging musician and you think you’re ready to rock the mic, get in touch with the team to flag your interest.

Last year’s event saw the likes of Jack Meredith, Across the Vines, Ash Hamilton, Pink Wool Press and Neil Lester try out their skills in front of one of the friendliest stages in the region.

With music lovers clocking up a heavy appetite for live entertainment in the region, this event truly couldn’t come at a better time, especially with the growth the small brewery has experienced over the past year.

Opening back in 2018 by the combined powers of local lass Kay Godfrey and her partner Chilla, BrewiColo Brewery was born from the love of beer, and the sentiment of bringing something new and refreshing to the Ocean Grove community.

Inspired by Chilla’s Fijian background, the pet-friendly brewery represents everything you would expect with its chill vibe, large outdoor area and, of course, their delicious craft beer.

Amongst their ever-changing brewery range, you’ll find a handful of mainstays that are sure to please the beer aficionados out there.

From their Ocean Grove Lager, Wai-koula Golden Lager and their Palm Pale Ale to their more adventurous Kofe Brown Ale (made with real coffee beans) and their citrus-driven Piqi Bright Lager, there’s something for every taste.

For non-beer drinkers, they also offer a selection of Oakdene wines, gin, rum, soft drink and some cheeky cocktails.

If the idea of chilling out and sipping on locally-made beer right where it’s brewed sounds pretty appealing, BrewiColo Brewing Co is your nirvana.

Not only can punters enjoy a cold brew in a groovy space, but you can also watch their operational brewhouse while you do it.

From the moment you step onto the ground floor, you’ll find yourself amongst the brewhouse, fermentation tanks and a tasting room which is open to the brew area. You can even head upstairs for a full view of the brewhouse and operations.

There’s just something about watching the creation process of the tasty amber nectar that brings us so much joy.

The other is live music and since day dot, BrewiColo has been a regular spot for local musicians to perform – from Georgia Rodgers and Justin Keenan to Ben Dew and Sam Hanson.

They even host regular open mic evenings. It’s quite clear that fostering the wave of local talent in the region is embedded into the brewery’s DNA and this upcoming open mic festival is just one of the many ways they’re helping revive our struggling music scene.

So, round up the crew, bring your pooch and sit back and enjoy a brewi or two to the sound of some damn fine local music.

MusicAles is happening on Sunday March 7 at 32 Marine Parade, Ocean Grove. Visit the website for more information and call 0484 765 384 if you’re keen to perform at the event.
