The Stay at Home restrictions will remain in place until at least July 29.
As the number of new COVID-19 cases in Victoria continues to rise, the state government will reintroduce Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions in selected ‘hotspot’ suburbs.
The lockdowns will come into effect from 11:59pm Wednesday July 1 and will remain in place until at least Wednesday July 29. Stay at Home restrictions will apply to anyone living in suburbs linked to the following postcodes: 3038, 3064, 3047, 3060, 3012, 3032, 3055, 3042, 3021, 3046.
This includes Brooklyn, Kingsville, Maidstone, Tottenham, West Footscray, Albanvale, Kealba, Kings Park, St Albans, Ascot Vale, Highpoint City, Maribyrnong, Travancore, Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge, Taylors Lakes, Watergardens, Airport West, Keilor Park, Niddrie, Glenroy, Hadfield, Oak Park, Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana, Brunswick South, Brunswick West, Moonee Vale, Moreland West, Fawkner, Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mickleham, Roxburgh Park, and Kalkallo.
If you live in these locations, the only valid reasons to leave your home for the next four weeks will be to shop for food and supplies, exercise, caregiving purposes and for study and work if you are unable to do so from home. Those living outside these suburbs will only be able to enter for one of the same four reasons.
Businesses which were recently allowed to reopen, such as beauty salons, gyms, libraries and swimming pools, will also be required to close for the next four weeks while cafes and restaurants will be allowed to open for takeaway and delivery only. Schools will return as planned from July 13.
Police will conduct regular patrols to ensure people are doing the right thing.
“My message to everyone in restricted postcodes is this: I know this will be terribly disruptive and difficult but if everyone sticks to the rules and we see transmission come down, then in four weeks the restrictions can lift,” said Premier Dan Andrews in a statement this afternoon.
“And for everyone outside these zones: please, be smart, be safe and pay attention to the directions. If you don’t then your local area might be next into lockdown and no one wants that,” he added.
“Very clearly, this is not where we wanted to be. I understand people are tired. We’re all frustrated. We all just want things to go back to how they once were. And the sooner we all do the right thing, the sooner we can beat this.”
