The Pink Tiles : #1 Fan

Long before hashtag slogans became part of the lingua franca of social media, music fans did declare themselves #1 fans of the pop sensation of the moment.  Whether it was The Beatles, the Stones, Bay City Rollers or ABBA, there was always someone prepared to anoint themselves as the band’s most devoted follower.

The Pink Tiles play music that’s straight from the ‘60s garage-pop playbook: catchy melodies, cute lyrics and sugary-sweet production.  You can’t help but listen to Time for Love, the Shangri-Las-meets-Gary Numan opening track from #1 Fan, and do anything but break out in the bedroom with a hair brush.  For Tomorrow is hedonistic power pop for the ages, Tell It To Her Straight is as warm and fuzzy as a winter coat and Sammy grooves, thrusts and grinds like anyone’s favourite garage workout.

Maybe the tremolo-blues-pop of Expensive Hobby will pique your attention or the speedy excitement of Independent Days or the Hummingbirds-like beauty of Rocky Road.  By the time the mood eases into submission with the electronic-minimalist romantic musings of Weird and Strained, you’re definitely hooked.  The Pink Tiles could be everyone’s #1 band, and everyone should be their #1 fan.
