The OG PlayStation from your youth is getting a reissue

PS1

There seems to be a burgeoning market in nostalgia; re-releasing games such as Star Wars Battlefront and various amped-up versions of the OG World of Warcraft is proving to be a lucrative sector of the gaming industry. Companies have been pushing this as far as they can, spreading the old-timey feels all the way to actual consoles.

It seems Sony have been keeping a keen eye on Nintendo’s success with the Nintendo Classic Mini, as they’ve just announced their own plan to cash in on your fondest childhood mems; a tiny to-scale version of the PS1 is to be released on December 3, and is called the PlayStation Classic.

The PS1 minis will be 45% smaller than the original console, and will also have smaller controllers as well. All games will be playable “in their original format”, and there will be a variety of popular games from the PS1 era to choose from; the lineup will feature Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms.

Sony has released a heartwarming statement regarding their newest release; “Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new… can enjoy the ground-breaking PlayStation console experience that started it all.” It’s been 25 years since the original PlayStation was released.
