The new competition celebrating Brunswick’s most talented songwriters

Brunswick has its own song competition and they need your votes.

With everyone in lockdown, the Sydney Road Brunswick Association came up with an ingenious idea to start a song competition to unearth the best music talent of Brunswick, a suburb known to be the Songwriters’ Capital of Australia.

The song competition was launched in early May and its premise was for budding songwriters to submit one song that fit within one of the following themes: ‘Brunswick Living’, ‘Sydney Road Brunswick’, ‘The Positive Side of Lockdown’, ‘The Whole Corona Virus Experience’.

Songwriters were asked to write the song from home in a safe, socially-distant manner and provide the lyrics which would then be submitted via the website. The competition received an incredible response from keen Brunswick musos and with submissions closing on May 25, voting is now open to the public.

Voting closes on Friday June 5 and now’s your chance to see some of Brunswick’s brightest music talent for yourself. When voting, punters will be asked to pick songs and provide a score out of 10 for two categories: ‘Lyrics’ and ‘Tune’.

It’s pretty simple – if you think the lyrics are red hot, then give a score accordingly. If the song’s a ripper as a whole, then what would you give them in the ‘Tune’ category?

Once you’ve watched a few of them, you’ll get on a bit of a roll and won’t be able to stop. Some of songs are absolutely fantastic – from witty lockdown-related lyrics about baking bread to quirky Brunswick stories and imagination, now’s the time to show your Brunswick mates some love.

To check out the songs and cast your votes, head here. Voting closes on Friday June 5.
