The Natural Culture’s new EP is a fun-filled, genre-spanning journey

The Natural Culture have delivered a deliciously diverse collection of tracks with their new EP.

This month, The Natural Culture unveiled Where the Sun Shines, a five-track EP spanning reggae, jazz, funk, soul and blues.

The first instalment of a trilogy of EPs, the new release sees the predominately live band channeling their passion for performing onstage into a record.

“We are primarily a touring band, and because of our extensive touring schedule over the last five years it proved difficult to get back into the studio to work on this EP,” said The Natural Culture of Where the Sun Shines.

This EP is a culmination of our experiences playing these songs with various musicians, venues and crowds in our touring cycles in the last five years. This has enabled us to explore the songs enough to capture them in a studio setting exactly the way we want it.”

Formed in 2011, the five-to-nine-piece band are known for their infectious, high-energy sound and their latest offering is no exception.

Opener ‘Holding Back Your Love’ brings the funk as it weaves between harmonised verses and what very well could be Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis’ vocal doppelgänger, backed by some serious sax work.

Next up, ‘Babble on Fine’ injects some classic reggae flavour into the mix before ‘Pumpkin Seeds’ brings the tempo back up in an epic play-off between vocals and instruments.

The penultimate ‘We’ve Got The Sun’ is a six-minute journey through a myriad of moods and sounds, switching up times signatures and intensity-levels for a captivating ride before closer ‘Nothing But A Funk Song’ delivers exactly that, serving as an exclamation mark as it concludes the EP.

Dripping with soul and delivering a huge hit of straight-up fun, Where the Sun Shines is heartfelt, danceable music that captures The Natural Culture’s mesmerising energy.

Impossible to pin down as it sweeps across a slew of genres and styles, the EP will have you hooked from the very first note to the last.
