The CBD and Cranbourne gardens will open their gates before the end of the month.

With COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne continuing to ease in line with the Victorian government’s roadmap to recovery, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne’s CBD and Cranbourne will reopen over the coming days.

The gardens first closed in March before briefly reopening, then being forced to close once again in August. Now, with Melburnians allowed to meet outdoors in groups of two for up to two hours, the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens will welcome the public through its gates this Saturday September 26, with Cranbourne Gardens due to reopen on Monday September 28.

Some slight changes have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of visitors, including temporarily revised opening hours of 7:30am until 5pm in the CBD and 9am until 5pm in Cranbourne.

Cafes, drinking fountains, BBQs and Gardens Shops will also be closed across both locations, while narrow pathways will be restricted to one-way foot traffic, with signage in place to direct visitors.

As of Monday September 28, if case numbers remain low, Melburnians will be able to meet outside for two hours in groups of up to five people from no more than two households. With spring officially upon us, the Royal Botanic Gardens will make the perfect picnic location for a catch up with friends.

Visitors are advised to bring their own hand sanitiser, practice good hygiene and follow the rules, meaning only those who live within 5km of the gardens should visit. Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing measures maintained.
