The highlights from this year’s Feast Festival LGBTQIA+ program

Let’s get loud.

Feast Festival, Adelaide’s annual LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival, is right around the corner. Going down in November, the lineup boasts a huge range of drag, music, art and entertainment acts that’ll have you running around the city for more. So, if you’re thinking of making to trek this this year’s Feast Festival, here’s what you need to see.

Pridevember

This year’s Feast will welcome a brand new, month-long event dubbed ‘Pridevember’, a celebration of the festival’s role in the local LGBTQIA+ community. The inaugural event will reflect on key milestones the community has overcome throughout history, including the decriminalisation of homosexuality in South Australia and the marriage equality postal survey.

Roll up to the Carnival

Pridevember isn’t the only brand new event premiering this year. Aussie pop icon Brendan Maclean will be headlining the first-ever Carnival spectacular, a huge night of queer entertainment, for the festival’s opening night. Other acts coming to the Carnival include triple j Unearthed winner Lupa J, cabaret singers, dancers and burlesque performers.

Picnic in the Park

On Sunday November 24, grab a basket and head to the glorious Picnic in the Park. There’ll be a vast range of local market stalls, food vendors and community stands if you forget to grab something from home. The entire family is welcome, and that includes the dog.

Sports sports sports

The annual Basketball Pride Match returns for Feast’s 2019 program. Seven-time Women’s National Basketball League champion Natalie Hurst, a recent signee with Adelaide Lightning, will be slam dunking during the entire game, no doubt. Before the game, be sure to swing by the restaurant for Drag Queen Bistro Bingo.

Crochet with a Gay Hooker

Fibre artist Richard Boyle (aka The Gay Hooker) presents an unusual pair of workshops in which punters learn the foundations of making a crochet doll. As someone who’s struggled with accessibility in the queer community, Boyle explains how his cute creations allow him to connect with the community. No experience is necessary to join in on the fun.

Feast Festival takes over Adelaide between Saturday November 9 and Sunday November 24. For the full program, head to the festival website.
