The ceremony has been rescheduled for October 2021.
The third annual Australian Women In Music Awards have been postponed until next year due to COVID-19, the AWMA Executive Committee announced in a statement this morning.
Launched in 2018, the AWMAs aim to spotlight women working within all facets of the music industry, including musicians, songwriters, music photographers, industry leaders, and much more. In the two years since the inaugural event, close to 90 women have been publicly recognized for their talents and contributions to the industry, with the AWMAs also spotlighting gender issues across the sector.
Due to physical distancing requirements, uncertainty around public gatherings and domestic travel and the lead-time required for the nomination and judging process, the Executive Committee decided it would not be viable to host the event this year.
“Our gains must be maintained and we promise to redouble our efforts to acknowledge and celebrate the value and significant contributions made by women across the sector,” said AWMA Founding Executive Director and Executive Producer, Vicki Gordon. “We will also continue to advocate for greater female representation on all of the relevant industry boards, backstage, technical, production, classical areas and festival representation as our industry strives to rebuild itself.
“What’s keeping us going, above all, is our plans to be back in Brisbane ready to soar again in October 2021.”
Planning for the 2021 AWMAs is already underway and will take place in Brisbane late next year.
