SYPRESS’ new track ‘Bother Me’ is a dancefloor romp sure to get any party started

Words by Tom Parker

It’s time to get to know SYPRESS.

Having supported the likes of G Flip, Winston Surfshirt and Bag Raiders, Sydney’s SYPRESS, aka Isy Piper, has been turning heads around the music industry with her dancefloor-friendly pop music.

After releasing her debut single, ‘BACK2U’, last November, the rising artist has just emerged with track two. Across a rapid three-minutes, ‘Bother Me’ sees SYPRESS find a production slipstream, delivering trusted tech house beats that will have any millennial on their feet.

If you blinked, you could’ve been carried away by the catchy melodies of ‘Bother Me’ without ever zoning in on the lyrics. Yet, there’s also a poignant narrative going on here, where SYPRESS pays tribute to someone close to her, an artist who’s passed that she’s always reflecting upon.

“Jesse, aka FOSTYR, unfortunately, is not with us anymore and this makes this music even more special to me,” she says. “Every time I hear it I remember us spending hours laughing and messing around in my home studio recording the demo. Rest in peace, angel.”

SYPRESS cut her teeth performing energetic closing DJ sets around Sydney, where she’d transform ordinary commercial tracks into sky-reaching, bassy, tech house bangers. Now, the stage is clear for SYPRESS to make a name for herself as a solo artist, and one who’s got two fantastic tracks to her name already.
