Synthwave explorers MCP blast us through the stratosphere with new film clip, ‘VantaBlack’

‘VantaBlack’ is a thematic explosion.

Shrouded with mystery, Sydney’s MCP could be one of the most intriguing music acts to emerge in 2020. The band craft enthralling synthwave that would feel at home mystifying a Stranger Things plot line.

To this point, they’ve got two tracks to their name – ‘VantaBlack’ and ‘Dwam’ – both of which are thematically disparate but cultivate fascination and allure in their own unique way.

The former of the two is characterised by a dark undercurrent that would excite the most sinister of synthwave masterminds. The pulsing beat is akin to a John Carpenter soundtrack while the accompanying commentary brings to mind the astral-gravitating Public Service Broadcasting.

With the ‘VantaBlack’ single having been released earlier this year, MCP are about to drop the song’s accompanying video, and we’ve scored the special premiere. A mini-documentary in itself, the film clip channels a number of visual narratives – from the first lift-off, to how the space-age has permeated regular consciousness via media, television, film and beyond, to references of human evolution and other intricate phenomenons.

This is more than just a music enterprise – via their ‘VantaBlack’ film clip, MCP have created a new schematic ideal for the fusion of music and film.

‘VantaBlack’ drops at 5pm on Thursday August 28 here. For more on MCP, check out their Bandcamp, Spotify and Instagram pages.
