Sydney rapper Webben melds old school hip hop and contemporary flow on his new EP, ‘Wilo’

Webben’s fourth EP sees him riffing on modern life while paying homage to classic hip hop.

Sydney-based rapper Bryce Webster, aka Webben, has delivered his most polished release to date with his new EP, Wilo. An acronym for ‘what’s it like outside?’, Wilo looks at what it means to be a human living in the world today.

Weaving tongue in cheek quips with personal experiences, the EP sees Webben reflect on topics such as masculinity, anxiety and heartbreak. Following on from his intimate, conceptual 2019 release Wake Me When You’re DoneWilo is yet another testament to Webster’s ability to wield poignant themes within his flow.

Another conceptual release, the EP begins by depicting someone who has been beaten down by life, building and growing across its nine tracks before finishing with a confident man ready for whatever life throws at him.

Drawing from Webster’s eclectic musical background, which originated in the realm of rock’n’roll, as well as his experience as a multi-instrumentalist, Wilo is packed with left-field beats comprising keys and retro beats amongst the ebb and flow of aggressive tempos and light, uplifting melodies.
