The country singer turns wild.
Country singer Sturgill Simpson has revealed details of his new album, Sound and Fury, at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, where he also previewed an accompanying anime film of the same name.
Simpson told the panel the upcoming LP is both his “most psychedelic” and “heaviest”.
“We went in without any preconceived notions and came out with a really sleazy, steamy rock‘n’roll record,” he said in a statement.
The film began when Simpson expressed interest in animating some of the record’s songs, and “ended up with a futuristic, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, samurai film”. Simpson’s companion film is set for a Netflix release later this year, simultaneous with the record.
The record is Simpson’s first since 2016’s Grammy award-winning A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.
Sound and Fury will arrive in Spring this year. More details to come.
