They’ve also revealed their 2021 program, featuring the summer mini-festival Fringe Replanted.
Iconic St Kilda performing arts venue Theatre Works has just lifted the lid on their 2021 program, and it’s a doozy. Kicking off in early January, Theatre Works will kick off their new season with Fringe Replanted – a run of COVID-safe shows through January that embrace risk and innovation.
Alongside Fringe Replanted comes the unveiling of a new pop-up theatre space: Theatre Works Glasshouse. Set to operate until June 2021, when Theatre Works will return to their standard seating setup, the Glasshouse has been conceived as a way to ensure the safety of their guests while also presenting theatre in a groundbreaking new way.
Theatre-goers will be able to purchase tickets to one of 12 booths – each of which have been designed with the safety of the audience and performer in mind. The perspex booths are divided into four sections, with two small booths and one large booth in each section. Within the booths are seats, cushions, coffee tables and pot plants.
What’s more, Theatre Works have developed their own custom app allowing punters to book their booth in advance and even pre-order drinks, ensuring their experience at the venue is as smooth and safe as possible.
To the festival program, and the events that have been announced as part of Fringe Replanted include Timberlake Wertenbaker’s The Love of the Nightingale alongside Ebony Rattle and Ellen Wiltshire’s joint production Ring, Ring! – two events enjoying seasons from January 5 to January 9.
From there, Michelle Myers’ And Then She Became A Chair will be presented from January 13 to January 16 with Alibi Or Someplace Else to enjoy the same season in mid-January.
The Fringe Replanted events extend until the end of January, with Theatre Works’ regular 2021 programming beginning in February. Across the rest of 2021, Theatre Works will present events as part of Midsumma Festival through April and May with their Glasshouse season closing with the harrowing drama Betty from June 9 to June 19.
