Splitting the Seconds: A Photographer’s Journal is leading Australian rock photojournalist Dane Beesley’s backstage account on ten years behind the lens.
The book is an insight into the sweaty life of a rock photographer, with photos only being a portion of the books contents. It even comes with scrawling journal entries and cheeky sketches.
Global music sensations may star on its pages, but the best part of the book is that its so much more than that! Not only is it a reflection on the man himself, but it’s also an important cultural commentary on his hometown of Brisbane as an increasingly creative hub for original music in Australia. This is a well-earned reputation, with the successful likes of Powderfinger, Wolfmother, The Grates and Kate Miller-Heidke all featuring in the books pages.
On his hometowns music scene, Beesley said that “while other cities were sleeping Brisbane was slowly carving out its own identity and values, breeding and nurturing home-grown musical talent working hand-in-glove with local producers, managers, labels and venues.”
Working tirelessly for two years with Brisbane graphic artist Suellen George, the pair have transformed his collection of photographs and frenzied scribble into a befitting homage to the artists that grace its pages.
