The legendary Spicks and Specks is back, not just for a one-off show but a full ten-episode season. Returning in 2021 on ABC TV, the show will be led by Adam Hills, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough – the three original quizmasters quintessential to the show’s success.
The most recent activity to come out of the Spicks and Specks corner came in April when a ’00s-themed special was screened. While this show – which featured appearances from special guests Ella Hooper, Nic Cester, Joel Creasey and Sarah Kendall – came as part of a string of decade-themed specials, Hills let slip of the possibility of doing a fully-fledged return.
“There was talk of doing a series of ten at some point this year, but then I had to juggle that around The Last Leg and the Paralympics. And now, the Paralympics have been cancelled as well, or postponed, so there’s definitely a possibility [of filming new episodes],” Hills said in an April interview for The Green Room with Neil Griffiths.
A full season of Spicks and Specks hasn’t been screened since 2014 when comedian Josh Earl joined Adam Richard and Ella Hooper at the helm of the show. Before that, Spicks and Specks originally ran from 2005 to 2011.
Spicks and Specks’ return was confirmed as the ABC announced their 2021 television schedule. There is little information about how the series will look at this stage but Warhurst revealed that it would be a full series via her Twitter page.
