Sony planning to bring back the original PlayStation from 1993

PS1

Most of us have fond memories of the O.G. PlayStation — the matte grey gaming console that started it all. Crash BandicootSpyroTekken and Gran Turismo are just a handful of titles that made it a staple in living rooms around the world.

While newer consoles have since come along with better graphics and more complex games, there’s much to be said about the sweet, sweet nostalgia that radiates off something you grew up with. Hell, even the PS1’s start-up sound is enough to send shivers down your spine. Just listen to that shit. Instant goosebumps.

The good news is, you’ll now be able to relive the joys of your youth. Sony is planning to revive the O.G gaming system, with the PS1 celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

“Our company is always digging up past assets,” said Sony President John Kodera. “I think there are various ways to do [a classic console]. There have been discussions happening [within the company] on what kind of ways are there.”

It follows Nintendo’s creative pursuits of late, re-releasing classic consoles including the NES and SNES.

If Sony was to bring back the PS1, here’s hoping they’d bring back fan favourites including Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7 with it too.

Game on.
