Hollywood isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Melbourne-based troubadour Joshua Batten has revealed his latest single ‘Hollywood Blues’, a track exploring the distinction between dreams and reality, embedded in country, folk, blues and rock’n’roll.

Born through Batten’s love of blues and all things America, ‘Hollywood Blues’ melds elements of storytelling and rock’n’roll to depict a tale of unfulfilled dreams and trying to hit the big time in Tinseltown.

“Because of everything I had seen on TV, I’d built Hollywood up in my mind, but when I first visited it was bright and cheery and a bit too plastic,” said Batten of the track.

“So, I wrote about someone going out there to make it big and everything falling apart.”

The single serves as the first taste of Batten’s forthcoming LP, The City Within, set for release early next year. To launch ‘Hollywood Blues’, Batten will deliver a two-hour performance at  Melbourne Polytechnic’s David Williamson Theatre on Thursday September 19.
