The acclaimed production is landing in 2020.
It’s seeming more and more like Australia is becoming a hub for renowned international theatre productions. First came Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, followed by a recent Hamilton announcement. Now, Shrek The Musical is making its way here in early 2020 and images from previous shows seem promising, if not mildly terrifying.
Jokes aside though, Shrek has had a really successful run as a musical since its launch in 2008. The production has received eight Tony Award nominations, 12 Drama Desk nominations, ten Outer Critics Circle nominations, three drama league nominations and a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Show Album. So, whether you’re planning on going unironically or you’re heading along for the meme-factor, chances are it’ll be a show to remember.
The production will be touching down in Sydney’s Lyric Theatre first before heading to Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne, then the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane.
Broadway's monster smash hit #ShrekMusicalAU is headed to Australia! Based on the The Academy Award-winning animated film Shrek, the hilarious story of everyone's favourite ogre will be brought to life on stage at Sydney Lyric Theatre in early January followed by seasons at Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne & QPAC! This lavish multi-million dollar musical is part romance, part twisted fairytale & all irreverent fun for everyone! Waitlist now: https://bit.ly/2Ig8ctg 👸🏰🐴
