Rich Webb’s ‘Railroad of Bones’ is a smoky, blues-tinged ride to the end of the line

Rich Webb has done it again with his new single.

On the back of 2018’s critically acclaimed album, Le Rayon Vert, Melbourne alt-country stalwart Rich Webb and his band have unleashed a cracking new single, ‘Railroad of Bones’.

A smoky blues number, the track pits slick, squealing electric guitar against bellowing, bluesy sax, tied together with Webb’s rumbling rasp. Backed by the same lineup that crafted the award-winning Le Rayon Vert, their new number is certain to see the same success.

You can almost smell the lingering scent of stale cigarette smoke, whiskey and dust on the air as Webb and Co. take you on an Americana-inspired tumble down the tracks.

Coming in smooth and cool, it’s all tame until the melodic strums are replaced with resounding riffs and the husky growls of sax come tumbling into the fore. A modern take on the blues, ‘Railroad of Bones’ is yet another knockout from one of Melbourne’s most eclectic alt-country outfits.

The single is accompanied by an animated film clip, illustrated by Emma Webb at Fickle Crowd and animated by Jarrod Elvin at MickMacks. A grim and gritty ride to the end of the line, it’s the perfect sidekick to this belter of a tune.
