Bad news for public transport users: train, bus and tram fees are set to rise again in 2019.
From New Years Day, most public transport fares will increase by 2.2%. Public Transport Victoria has said this is in line with the consumer price index, and it is the lowest fare rise since 2014.
A full fare two-hour Myki trip will be increasing from $4.35 to $4.40, and the concession trip will grow from $2.15 to $2.20. Overall, this means you could be paying up to $8.80 or $4.40 a day, depending on your entitlements. Luckily, if you’re a regional Victorian, your fare prices won’t change.
If you plan on taking public transport during Christmas or New Year’s Eve, free transport awaits you. From 3am on Christmas Day til 3am on Boxing Day, you’ll be able to take a train, tram, bus or V-Line train without having to touch on. Same goes from 6pm on New Year’s Eve til 6am New Year’s Day.
