All You Need In Life Is Someone To Love And Your Family is the Melbourne multi-talented artists’ triumphant debut LP.
Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist Rory Maxwell, aka SERF, has unleashed his debut album All You Need In Life Is Someone To Love And Your Family. The highly-anticipated LP comes in the wake of his popular 2019 EP, Health & Education and follows a split release with Polish alt-hardcore outfit Love Glove released earlier this year.
Influenced by the likes of The Cure, New Order and Joy Division, SERF’s sound is stacked with echoey synths and pedal laden guitars, all laced with a melancholic haze. Think bubbly post-punk meets sad synth-pop.
Recorded and produced solely in his bedroom studio, SERF’s new album is a reflection of the bleak and bizarre world we’re living in and the dystopian future that lies ahead.
Across 11 tracks, All You Need In Life Is Someone To Love And Your Family brings together a seamless blend of nostalgic synth, drum machines and strong basslines, all concocted by Maxwell’s one-man-band.
Reflecting on the impending AI Apocalypse and our increasing reliance on technology while outlining the human race’s seemingly inevitable path to self-destruction, there’s an underlying sense of doom tying the album together.
